We Want Equal Rights for All
March 1, 2012, 6:30pm
606 W. 115th St., NYC
On March 1, 2012 at 6:30pm the Ethiopian Jewish community in NYC will be hosting a solidarity evening with Ethiopian-Israelis in Israel. In recent weeks, Israel and its people were awakened to rallies and demonstrations in the streets of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Kriyat Malachi and other cities, organized by Ethiopian- Israelis and non-Ethiopian Israelis in response to increasing cases of overt discrimination against Israelis of Ethiopian decent.
The evening will provide an opportunity to have an in-depth dialogue about the issues, what has been done, what could be done, and ways to advocate for positive change for the benefit of all Israelis. The evening will feature diverse voices from the Ethiopian Israeli community leading the struggle in Israel, representatives of the Israeli government and others who are involved in the immigration and Absorption of Ethiopian-Israelis in Israel.
We are proud citizens of Israel who love Israel, and contribute positivity to Israeli society. Our hopes and
prayers are with Israel. As we prosper within Israeli society, all Israelis benefit. That is why it is important and crucial to let Ethiopian-Israelis and non-Ethiopian Israelis understand in a positive way some of the challenges our community faces within Israel.
The event will be co-sponsored by BINA Cultural Foundation & Chassida Shmella, Ethiopian Jewish
organizations in NYC, Columbia University’s Hillel, Israel At Heart, and the 92nd Street Y.
