In 1961 Cubaís revolutionary government effectively banned religious observance, leaving the Cuban Jewish Community struggling to sustain itself. Brazilian Jewish filmmaker Milos Silberís Jubanos: The Jews of Cuba tells the humbling story of the 1,500 Jews who remained in the country despite these difficulties.
The screening of the 43-minute film will be followed by a panel discussion with participants from the JCCSF and Lehrhaus Judaica mission to Cuba, including Rabbi Peretz Wolf-Prusan and tour leader Ariel Goldstein. They will share what they learned when visiting Cubaís Jewish communities in January 2012.
