Namanyonyi Well Project Begins January 2008
The following report was sent by Aaron Kintu Moses, who visited Namanyonyi:
We are excited that the water project in Namanyonyi is underway. The work had been delayed due to oil shortages caused by the political unrest in Kenya. Despite fuel crisis in Uganda, the equipment finally arrived. The borehole that produced enough water was drilled at a different location from where we initially expected the water to be. Extending electricity and pipes to this new location well will be the next step.
I interviewed some members of Namanyonyi village to know their feelings about the well. It confirmed that this well will save hundreds of people's lives who are currently drawing water from polluted water sources.
Thank you for identifying water as a major health problem to Abayudaya community. As soon as Namanyonyi's problem is solved, we shall move on to adress the needs in Nangolo, Nasenyi, and Namutumba.
B'ahavah, Aaron

USY Gift Towards a Library in Uganda
United Synagogue Youth, the youth arm of the Conservative movement, donated $15,000 towards building a library in the Abayudaya community. The library will be part of an adult yeshiva that is being planned for the Abayudaya community in the future.
When Rabbi Sizomu receives his ordination from the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in Los Angeles in May and returns to Uganda, he will begin planning for a Yeshiva that will provide Jewish education for students from African Jewish communities including Uganda, Ghana, Nigeria and southern Africa.
