December 2009

We are delighted to update you on the progress of the Abayudaya Community Health and Development Project.

"So Far So Good!"

The Health Center is making steady progress. The front doors of the second floor and all windows have been installed. The window iron work and ceiling molding prominently feature Mogen Davids, as seen at right. Work on the second floor balcony is also advancing. The second phase of painting the ground floor has begun. “So far so good!” says Rabbi Sizomu.

Host Rabbi Gershom Sizomu in the Spring!

Rabbi Gershom Sizomu is currently booking speaking engagements for his Spring 2010 tour of the United States.

A charismatic leader and accomplished musician, Rabbi Sizomu is the first black rabbi from sub-Saharan Africa to be ordained at an American rabbinic school. Rabbi Sizomu can lead a Shabbat service, D'var Torah, or Havdallah; address a classroom or school; show a slideshow of photos of life in his community in Uganda; or give a concert. He can be booked for a single day or evening event on a weekday, or for a Rabbi-in-Residence weekend (which includes up to three events).

If you would like to book Rabbi Sizomu during his Spring speaking tour, which is tenatively scheduled for May 2010, please contact Andrew Esensten, Speakers Bureau coordinator.
